Trojan Horse - Bronze Sculpture
Trojan Horse

Brute force for ten years.  Nothing achieved.  They bring in the artist Epeius and instantly doors open – from the inside.  The magic of functioning in the higher planes of reality is powerfully illustrated in this piece where the eyes appear glazed or blind, while the effective organ of seeing is the secret hatch; the third eye if you will, where sight and intentionality are united in the ultimate posture of war: perfect strength and perfect discretion.   More covertly,  in the spirit of the Greek legend, Bruvel employs a unique device:  the base of the sculpture is really a part of  the scheme rather than a mere platform for display.  It represents the body of the horse, and contains the raw warrior power.  These warriors though fully trained and adequate against formidable odds, are helpless and confined, relying on the intelligence of the plan and the vision of the eye.  Survival equals victory.  There is no middle ground.  If the “high command” has been foolish or deranged by hubris, their vehicle for victory will surely be their coffin.  They appear to have some qualms, even to bicker in the  uncertainty of the waiting period.  Perhaps this is that moment when  Laocoon rushes up with loud prophecy of warning crying deceit and fraud.  In that moment came the ultimate test of nerve for the cocooned soldiers.  Should they fling open the hatch and die quickly amidst their thousand enemies, or push the odds to the limit and risk being burnt alive?  Only in the comfort or the present can we admire their courage in waiting for the slim chance of pulling victory out of the flames of  ordinary outcomes.  We can be reminded in this art to consult our own courage and to trust in the vision that is of the higher orders of seeing.
