Inner Child
Inner Child is a prime example of how Gils vision and exploration has been assisted by technology. This 283/4 inch bronze was the first freestanding, full-character sculpture Gil made directly from his 3-D computer images. Utilizing a complex software package used mainly in the automobile design and entertainment industries, Gil rendered his original work in 3-D. This allowed the artist to bypass the laborious step of making a model from clay and instead focus more on creativity.
Making a clay model can be a tedious process, Gil said. The computer takes out such steps and allows for the original intuition that makes a work unique and interesting. The ease at which an artist can make changes with computers allows the artist freedom during the creative process to change his vision midstream, without having to start at the beginning and without having to confront the material aspect of the medium. With the computer, this step is completely obliterated. It doesnt exist anymore.
This joyous work depicting a woman literally letting her spirited inner child show, is being released in a pre-publication offer for a limited time. The numbers on the base of the work signify the passage of time. I had a lot of fun with this work, Gil said. I see the inner child as playful, spontaneous, and open to new experiences. This work shows that its an act of will to let your inner child shine through.
